Mathis Law selected for remote trial

September 4, 2020

As reported by the Florida Times-Union, an upcoming trial for the Mathis Law Firm will be part of a state-wide experiment into alternatives for in-person court proceedings due to the Covid-19 pandemic.  This remote “virtual” trial will be a unique opportunity to demonstrate how we are adapting to the unprecedented challenges by making the most of the technology available to us.

This will be only the second such case of its kind.  Jacksonville’s Fourth Judicial Circuit is among five circuits selected by the Florida Supreme Court to test different approaches to conducting court functions. All jury trials around the state have been suspended to protect participants and the public from the spread of the coronavirus.

As part of the fully remote trial, all aspects of the trial, from jury selection to deliberation, are being conducted virtually.

The trial is being conducted over the virtual networking service, Zoom.  While the trial will not be streamed, it will be recorded and available online through the Florida Remote Civil Jury Trial Pilot Program website.
